April 2012 - David Shepherd Wildlife Artist of the Year 2012 Exhibition

I am over the moon that my painting 'Then and Now' has been chosen as one of the finalists in this prestigious international competition. It will be hung, amongst a selection of wonderful wildlife related painting and sculpture, at the Mall Galleries in May this year.

Through the DSWF, David Shepherd is raising desperately needed funds to save critically endangered mammals in the wild. The proceeds from this exhibition will help - do visit!

January 2012

Apologies to all - my elderly father remains in hospital and I am spending my days commuting to see him. This means I only have one hour each day to paint, so progress is very slow.

November 2011

I've just come back from the most fantastic twelve days in central India. We met some great people, had wonderful food, and saw 156 bird species (thank you Richard!) and six different tigers.

October 2011

I enjoyed some new challenges last month. A week spent at the fantastic Prince's School for the Traditional Arts in London introduced me to both a variety of techniques for applying gold to paper, and a new medium - watercolour. It was suggested, whilst I was there, that I might submit work to the Royal Society of Miniature Painters, Sculptors and Gravers, so this month I'm attempting my first miniature painting, which is all of 6 x 8 cm in size. It's going well so far, but I have some difficult areas still to tackle.

 September 2011

August was a fantastic month. The British Birdwatching Fair was a huge success - it was wonderful to see so many old friends and customers, and meet some new folk. Sales were great too - my best ever! Thanks to all of you.
