Barn Owl - Silverpoint SOLD
This barn owl is drawn in pure silver.
In the fifteenth century pencils as we know them had not been invented, so artists used pieces of metal to draw with instead. Copper, lead and gold were all used, but silver was the most popular.
The silverpoint line is delicate and cannot be erased. It is built up in many carefully applied layers.
Over time the silver will tarnish, a much-prized characteristic of genuine silverpoint drawings.
